Benefits of HB 1742
Helps Get Rehabilitated Formers Offender Back To Work
Helps deserving former offenders get back to work and to reach their full potential by lowering barriers to employment. This will have far reaching indirect benefits, such as reducing government dependency, strengthening families, and improving our workforce.
Increases Incentives For Rehabilitation
Allows judges to further incentivize rehabilitation by offering potential relief to those who sufficiently demonstrate rehabilitation during the 30 days following probation discharge.
Gives Judges Time to Make Better Decisions Regarding Judicial Clemency
Gives judges the ability to take more than 30 days after probation is over before they make the important decision about setting-aside a conviction. Judges who have more time to evaluate a former offender’s conduct will have the ability to make better decisions. It also allows a judge to provided limited relief and hold back firearm rights restoration until such relief is merited.
Stops Inequitable Distribution of Justice
The benefits listed above have recently been removed in dozens of counties. This bill puts provides clarity and restores the benefits to all of Texas.
Act Now to Help This Bill Pass!
Our focus is on helping people gain a second chance in life by reforming unjust criminal record laws.
We aim to raise the awareness and success of important Texas law issues. Specifically those regarding criminal record laws. We believe that our people are our greatest asset and hindering a person's productivity by labels that no longer apply is bad for all of Texas.
